“Difficile”.

Hai già iniziato a lavorare col nuovo gruppo?

“Sì, mentre mi allenavo in Italia.

“Migliorare gara dopo gara”.

Here’s the interview, translated into english.]

Hi Maximilian. The first question is: how are you? Did you enjoy the winter holiday season?

“Hello. I’m fine thanks and have enjoyed the winter a lot, having spent a few days in Italy on my motocross bike and a lot of time in the gym”.

What is your first memory related to motorcycle racing?

“My first memory is riding in my grandmothers’ garden and doing some national Supermoto races in Austria”.

Which riders were you cheering on when you were young?

“I supported Casey Stoner for MotoGP, but at the beginning of my career I was more interested in Supermoto, so I supported riders in that motorcycle category”.

Which is your favourite track?

“My favorite track is Lusail in Qatar, when the lights are on and the sun is setting”.

Before reaching the Grand Prix paddock, you raced in the CIV, the Italian Moto3 Championship. What do you remember about that period?

“I have a lot of good memories from that time. It was my first year of track racing and I learned a lot in the CIV Moto3 during that season. The best moment I remember is obviously my wet race at Mugello, which I finished on the podium”.

Who has been your most formidable opponent since you’ve been a pro?

“I think I have to say Pedro Acosta. When he arrived in Moto3 he was impressive and he became world champion in his debut season.”

In your opinion, what’s your best race in your entire career?

“My best race was 2021 Red Bull Ring 1 in Moto3. I made my comeback at my home race after breaking four vertebrae at Mugello and without touching a bike in two months, and I achieved my best result in the world championship by finishing ninth at my home track.”

What do you think of the Moto3 World Championship, after beeing there for two years and with some other appearances in years prior?

“Personally it is a great category because it has super close races and certainly the racing is always very exciting. Of course, sometimes it becomes dangerous, but most of the riders know what they’re doing.”

Do you think Moto3 needs to change? In that case, what should be changed?

“I think more power to the bikes can help change it a bit, but I don’t think many things need to change. Also, I think raising the minimum age limit was a good move.”

In 2022 you moved into the WorldSSP Championship. Why did you choose this category?

“I was thinking of switching to SSP300 or SSP. In the end, I didn’t want to take a step back in my career by going to the 300 class and I had a good chance of moving up to Supersport with Ducati, a choice I had to make in my opinion”.

Can you describe your 2022 season in a word?

“Difficult”.

You had the chance to make the debut on the brand new Ducati Panigale V2. What was it like to ride a two-cylinder motorcycle?

“I had a great feeling being part of the Ducati family. Of course, it was a big change for me coming from Moto3, but I liked the way I rode the twin-cylinder from the very first outing”.

During the last part of the 2022 season, your relationship with the CM Racing team broke down. What was the reason?

“After a difficult part of the season in Europe where we didn’t get results, we wanted to stop working before leaving overseas. Both the team and I had different views on how the season was going and why things had gone the way they did. In the end, stopping before the extra-European cycle with a good race in Portimão was the right choice”.

In 2023 you will ride for the D34G Racing team. Did you already start working with this new crew?

“Yes, while I was training in Italy. I met some of the crew and they immediately made me feel welcome and family.”

The D34G Racing team has been created by Davide Giugliano, former WorldSBK racer. How the relationship has started between you two?

“We met each other in the paddock and started talking mid-season. I saw how his team was working and how he was improving race by race. In the end we started talking in more detail and we got together for 2023. I’m really grateful to Davide for giving me the chance to race for his team and I’m sure we can do great things together.”

What’s your main goal for the 2023 season?

“Improving race after race”.

With Dominique Aegerter participating in the WorldSBK class, whose the favourite for the title in the Supersport category?

“Nicolò Bulega”.

What’s your opinion on full-electric bikes? Are you interested in MotoE, maybe to race in this category in the near future?

“At the moment it’s something I’m looking at and with the Ducatis I think it can be a really cool championship. For the moment I’m not thinking about competing in MotoE but you never know what the future has in store”.

Do you have any regrets about you career?

“There are some things I would have done differently in retrospect, but I don’t regret anything.”

Are you thinking to return in the Grand Prix paddock? Or are you fully committed to remain in WorldSSP for a very long time?

“For the moment I feel really good in the SBK paddock and I’m enjoying the time here. But like I said, you never know what the future has in store for us.”
